After making history in Cardiff, champions League winners will see nearly double the bonus payout they received in 2015-16
Real Madrid’s players had a historic night in Cardiff when they defeated Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final. They also had a very lucrative one.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a brace, while Casemiro and Marco Asensio added goals of
their own as Madird entered the record books as the first team since AC Milan to repeat as the champions of Europe, and the first to do so since the modern Champions League era began in 1992-93. It was the club’s 12th time capturing Europe's top continental crown.
But as it turns out, the squad will earn more than just historic silverware for their efforts, as Marca reports the squad negotiated some very lucrative bonus payouts. The Spanish publication reported before the final that Madrid players demanded an individual payout of €1.5 million if they managed win both La Liga and the Champions League, which the club accepted.Last year’s payout was a mere €700,000, plus another €100,000 for a Camp Nou Clasico win, meaning the squad nearly doubled their haul as they returned to the Champions League summit for the second straight year.
Not bad for a night’s work.
