"we did not ban olamide's wo" NBC denies media rumour. (read more )
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has refuted widespread media reports that it has banned five Nigerian songs having tagged them as “Not to be Broadcasted.”
Recall that on Tuesday, the Commission released a list, saying it has banned the five songs from being aired across the Nigerian airwaves.
The songs, reportedly banned by NBC are Olamide‘s “Wo” and “Wavy Level“; Davido‘s “Fall” and “If (Remix)“; and 9ice’s “Living Things.”
In a sit down chat with SIGNAL on Tuesday, Mrs. Maimuna Jimada, the NBC’s Head of Public Affairs said she was not aware of any such list emanating from the NBC.
“First of all, the NBC does not ban songs. We only insist that broadcasters exercise a sense of responsibility in the kind of content they allow to go on air. So even if the NBC has placed such a restriction on any of these songs, it does not constitute a ban.
They can still be played at nightclubs, streamed on the Internet, played at home and on people’s mobile devices. But I am not aware of the NBC releasing any list banning or putting a restriction on any of those five songs. It is also possible that one of our regional offices advised stations under their jurisdiction about these songs and it is now being misinterpreted as a ban.
Mrs. Jimada said;
“If you look at the report, you would know there was something fishy about it because the NBC is the National Broadcasting Commission and not a “Corporation” as being reported by the media outlets disseminating the news.”
Songs by Olamide, Davido and 9ice has been banned by the FG(check songs & reasons)
The National Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, has banned five songs by Olamide, Davido and 9ice, having considered them offensive for broadcast, according to online portal, Premium Times. The banned songs are Olamide‘s “Wo” and “Wavy Level“; Davido‘s “Fall” and “If (Remix)“; and 9ice’s “Living Things.”
The corporation released the list yesterday, saying it banned the five songs from being aired across the Nigerian airwaves. The Federal Ministry of Health had in a tweet on Friday, said the video to Olamide’s “Wo” violated the Tobacco Control Act 2015. The 28-year-old rapper, who is signed to his own record label, YBNL, had returned to Ladi Lak in Bariga where he was raised to shoot the video of his latest single
This is our position: video contravenes the act. Innocently or otherwise, Tobacco Promotion Advertising Sponsorship is banned in all forms,” the NBC said. It could not immediately ascertain why the songs of the two other musicians were banned. In June this year, the federal government, through the Ministry of Health, had launched a campaign to ban smoking in public places, including motor parks, shopping malls and health care centres. The Health Ministry, in a communiquĂ©, said according to Section 9 of the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act 2015, once convicted, offenders are liable to a fine of at least N50, 000 and/or six months’ imprisonment. Tweeting the information via its official Twitter page, the Ministry claimed that the video, which features ghetto scenes in which youth are seen smoking, encouraged second-hand smoking. This is not the first time that an Olamide song will be banned by the regulatory agency. In 2016, just a few months after the ban of one of his songs, ‘Shakiti Bobo’, NBC also banned, ‘Don’t Stop’ which is a track off Olamide’s 5th studio album, Eyan Mayweather, for its vulgar lyrics. Defending the decision at the time, the NBC said the song was banned from being played on the airwaves for its ‘obscenity, being indecent, vulgar languages, lewd and profane expressions like ‘wa gba ponron’, ‘I just want to hit you now’, ‘je kin wo be…” Rapper Falz had also in June, criticized Nigerian musicians who glamourised fraud with their lyrics, a criticism fans took to be directed at 9ice for “Living Things.” The actor and rapper stated that the recent trend of hailing Internet fraudsters in music is not helping future generations as the young ones are beginning to see this as a normal way of life. He recounted the personal experience of challenges faced by Nigerians in other countries as a result of cyber crime. “No person shall engage or participate in any tobacco advertising, promotion or sponsorship as a media or event organizer, celebrity or other participant,” it read. According to the 2015 law, anyone who violates the law faces the risk of a fine and jail term of not more than one year. Persons that produce or publish advertising, promotion or sponsorship content shall attract a fine of not less than N3,000,000 and a term of imprisonment of not more than one year. If the tenets of the tobacco-control act are followed to the latter, then the rapper is at risk of N3 million fine, one-year jail term over ‘Wo’ video.

Wizkid Can Not Write His Story Without Mentioning My Name – Samklef

It was in the news some time ago, that music producer and singer, Samklef was not happy about Wizkid’s silence in the role he played in his music career. This caused a major beef between them.
Samklef in a chat with Saturday Beats, said he is no longer mad at Wizkid. He added that it was impossible for Wizkid to write his story without mentioning his name.
He said, “I am part of Wizkid’s history whether he likes it or not and he cannot write his story without mentioning my name. I have always respected Wizkid’s hustle from day one. He has a strong will. So far so good, we have settled the misunderstanding between us in 2015 after one of my trips from America.
We are all busy now, so I am no longer worried about whatever people say because at the end of the day, we all have our journey in life and success is the most important thing. I am no longer bitter at Wizkid, the past is gone.”
Samklef also spoke about his two-year deal with American pop star, Akon. He said many believe this was a boost in his career which was almost dead.
He added,“Before I bagged this new deal, people told me to my face that my career was dead. I felt quite disappointed at those people but it got to a time when I stopped having any feeling about that remark.
I realised it was not about how people saw me but the perception I had of myself. So far, I have been trying to stay relevant. Consistency is the key. Nigerians are so sentimental and they don’t appreciate their own and that is why I pity so many talented people that had reigned in the past.
Once you are no longer in the limelight, they forget about you. They do not even think about the good works that you had done.
“This new generation artistes do not have respect especially when they have ‘blown’. They are quick to forget the people that were there before them. They forget that what they do to others would always come back to haunt them. I don’t ever wish bad for anyone.
I have paid my dues and I played my role in building this music industry that everyone is benefitting from and no one is giving me my credit but God has crowned my effort with glory and He decided to pay me with this new deal,”

”Ducks Don’t Play Where Lions Play”: Wizkid Throws Another Shade At Tekno
Wow! The beef between Wizkid and Davido seems to be getting more interesting as Tekno has become the new ingredient in the barbecue. As we all know, the three singers are internationally signed; this has led to a quest to be labelled the best musician out of Africa. No doubt, all three cats are hit makers, but wizkid seems ahead of the others Internationally. While he’s going on tour with Chris Brown and Future and also getting featured by top American musicians, much is yet to be heard on Tekno’s International deal while Davido has returned to his roots to make music the way they want after almost having his style changed to meet the International standard, according to him.
Tekno jumped into the beef equation yesterday when he tweeted that the best International Artiste will soon be known. Fans on social media saw that as a shade at Wizkid or Davido or at the both of them. Many say he’s just pained that Wizkid edged him and Davido to emerge the Best International Act at the BET Awards. Well, Wizkid has dropped a shade that seem too be directed at Tekno, or Davido inclusive. See tweets below.
