Kidnappers' den uncovered in Lagos state, Lagos abeokuta expressway, ijaye ojokoro as two suspects were set ablazed

🗣 *DID YOU KNOW*

*An underground canal where millions of Lagosian ply everyday was, prior to now, a ritual den"?*

Lagos-Abeokuta expressway experienced a temporary mass exodus of people — mostly from Sango, Alakuko, Agege and the neighbouring town of Ojokoro L.G.A of Lagos State — after the news of a tunnel-esque canal turned out to be a ritual den filled the neighborhood.

It all started when a dutiful LAWMA worker, who was carrying out her job, at Ajala bus-stop on Tuesday morning,  heard a woman calling for help in an underground canal, which is a bizarre place for such to happen. On a whim, she alerted some patrolling army to come experience what she just observed or heard. On getting into the canal, the armies where at a crossroad on where to proceesld to. Right before them,  the canal had many numerous pathways. After a long treading of the pathways, they found two kids tied with to a rope. As one of the men was untieing the rope, another saw the shadow of suspect.

The armies were successful in nabbing two of the suspect while others fled. The kids, however, reported that their mothers were still in the hideout. A furious and agitated crowd were kicking their heels for the arrival of the armies, obviously with the suspects in captivity — since the news had spread. As is the case with mobs and angry people, they wanted to take everything (the judgement) into their hands, but the soldiers rained on their parade. Just like wildfire, the news spread across the neighborhood with people coming to see things for themselves. With an increasing population of mobs, they were successful in interrogating the suspects. Obviously, with little violence.

One of the suspects was reported to have said the best that could be done to him is to be handed over to the police. Apparently, there are still 27 of his colleagues lurking around. And, he quite helped the mob narrow his punishment down by revealing he can't be hurt by fire — hence, he can't get burnt even if he was set _ablaze_. Then he swallowed something which was assumed to be a charm. Upon hearing that and seeing him swallow something, the mob dumped little violence for the major one: using machetes on him and subsequently burning him. That has little effect on him; he told them something about fire and burning him the other time. Truly, he wasn't hurt through fire.

But mobs have got plethora of options to punish a victim; they took to stoning and made sure he died through the agency of stones being hurled at him. Then they finally cremated his dead body.

The other suspect confessed that 20 victims were still held captive in the tunnel. The chairman of the local government got to the scene and urged the mobs to return to their business or whatever they were doing before the scenario. He promised the government will do its best to punish the culprits. The charmain was left in awe after the other suspect revealed the ritual den had been in existence for about 4 years.
Taking pictures to make this report more concrete proved abortive as a police officer warned our correspondent not to take the photos of the canal. The police claimed they've swing into action to also apprehend the other culprits. He, however, applauded our effort after we revealed our identity to him. He praised for doing a great job, but claimed such actions can hinder the progress of investigations as Sniffer Dogs are searching for the suspect in the Canals,accidentally our action might perturb the Dogs.

```A not-so-identical illustration of the canal is like the one found at the Mancot Park in FUNAAB's campus. Imagine someone creating a pathway in such canal which leads to an underground portion at the Senate Building. Something just like it.```
The rate of kidnapping cases in Nigeria is quite alarming. It beggars description as to how people slaughter just for money, right? We need changes. Enjoy the day even when this news makes you feel bad.
*Morals:*Let's us cultivate the habit of departing early,so as to arrive our destination in the daylight as most of this evil doers operate in the late hours of the day.
May we resume in Good health and prosperity (amen).
